Eastbourne EBP - Celebration Event 2011

Unfortunately as of 22nd August , we now have a problem with the arrangements for the date set for our Celebration Event and Steven Goss-Turner, our Chairman, has reluctantly decided to postpone the event until early November. Steven apologises for any inconvenience (and disappointment) that this may cause and hopes that you will be available to attend on the new date.

Eastbourne EBP - Celebration Event Tuesday 20th September, commencing 5pm, Eastbourne Town Hall

I am writing on behalf of Steven Goss-Turner, Chair of Eastbourne EBP Ltd, to invite you to our special celebration event and presentations on 20th September 2011. The event will commence at 5.00pm in the Court Room, Eastbourne Town Hall. We will be serving a cream tea when there will be an opportunity to network.

Since becoming independent in June 2008, hundreds of students of all ages have continued to participate in our work-related learning events with employers. These include our various Engineering Club challenges, In-Bloom, Young Chef and of course Eastbourne Youth Radio -11th year this coming November!

The past few months have been a very difficult period for education business partnerships following the withdrawal of government funding and various changes affecting 14-19 vocational provision. This includes the removal of pre-16 work experience entitlements and significant reductions in Connexions (careers) provision. In Sussex, this has resulted in the closure of both East Sussex and West Sussex EBPs leaving just Eastbourne and Brighton & Hove EBPs to continue with this important work.

Working ahead of these unprecedented changes, Eastbourne EBP was already embarking on the next chapter of its long history. Together with Eastbourne & District Chamber of Commerce and Eastbourne Borough Council, we are now establishing the best operating structure for the future. We became incorporated effective 6th May 2011 and are now working towards achieving charitable status with the generous support of Mayo Wynne Baxter. Steven will be outlining details of all these changes at the event in September.

Whilst the economy continues to suffer, there has never been a better time for schools and employers to work together to create a culture of ‘education for employability’. This sits well with ‘Enterprising Eastbourne’ and the personal vision of Stephen Lloyd MP who is also our Patron. We very much hope that this event will help to inspire you to share this vision and start to put the necessary skills into the ‘toolbox’ for the future.

We hope that you and/or a colleague are able to join us on 20th September. Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with your name(s) and contact details.

Eastbourne Education Business Partnership Ltd – Synopsis

Eastbourne Education Business Partnership Ltd delivers work-related activities that enhance teaching and student learning outcomes and contribute to economic growth and prosperity in Eastbourne and Hailsham.

Eastbourne EBP is totally independent and currently pursuing charitable status. We work closely with Eastbourne & District Chamber of Commerce and Eastbourne Borough Council to help broker partnership support and contribute to workforce planning. Stephen Lloyd MP is our patron. We also represent ‘Learning & Skills’ on the Eastbourne Strategic Partnership.

Dr Steven Goss-Turner, Chair of Eastbourne EBP, writes, "The partnership between education and the business community is often characterised by good intentions on both sides but a lack of tangible outcomes. Eastbourne EBP is a striking example of an initiative which provides the medium for achieving mutually beneficial outcomes. This is recognised by its 'Badge of Honour' award for Eastbourne Youth Radio but more significantly by the enthusiasm and the learning generated by the collaboration of students, teachers and business leaders."

Annual Programme 2011-2012:

  • Junior Enterprise Challenge (Years 3-4), 3rd October 2011
  • Eastbourne Youth Radio – EYR (Years R-13), 16th-18th November 2011
  • Pantomime Challenge – The Adventures of Robin Hood (Years 4-5) 28th November 2011
  • Young Engineers Challenge (years 6-7), 27th January 2012
  • Olympics In-Bloom Finals (Years R-6), 16th March 2012 Olympics In-Bloom Planting, June 2012 - tbc
  • Junior Engineers Challenge (Year 2), 29th June 2012 Young Chef Finals (Years 7-10), 3rd July 2012

In addition, we provide support to teachers and encourage progression towards apprenticeships. Plans are currently being discussed to launch more enterprise activities, together with additional support for the retail and hospitality sectors.

Activities are co-ordinated by Tim Sorensen at Soren Learning Solutions Ltd. For further information please visit www.eastbourneebp.org.uk or www.eyr.org.uk and email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

A Working Partnership for the Future

Established in 1985, Eastbourne Education Business Partnership has become incorporated and is now seeking charitable status.

This is a real coup for Eastbourne, coming as it does on the heels of recent government funding cuts and the local authority closure of similar services in both East and West Sussex and nationally.

Dr Steven Goss-Turner, Chair of Eastbourne EBP, writes, "The incorporation marks a new beginning for Eastbourne EBP that has built an enviable reputation for the delivery of work-related learning events for local schools and colleges. Thousands of students aged 5-19 have already benefitted from initiatives including Engineering Club events, In-Bloom, Young Chef and Youth Radio.

The new company includes senior representatives from primary, secondary, further and higher education as well as Eastbourne & District Chamber of Commerce and Eastbourne Borough Council. Stephen Lloyd MP has kindly agreed to be our Patron. Working in partnership we will pursue the delivery of a wider programme that will include reciprocal support back into business and the wider community. The aim is very much to help Eastbourne in both its economic and social development.”

Eastbourne EBP is particularly grateful to Glen Stone and Rachel Gales at solicitors Mayo Wynne Baxter who have generously dealt with all of the administration with Companies House and are now liaising with the Charities Commission.

It is hoped that new funding opportunities will become accessible once charitable status is achieved. This will help boost the current income from education and event sponsorship from the many business and community partners. Increased income will enable capacity building and help create sustainability for this working partnership.

On the subject of sponsorship, the EBP is counting down the weeks to the 11th broadcast of Eastbourne Youth Radio in November. Weather Front, Enterprise Shopping Centre, Jones Bootmaker, Parker Building Supplies, Brighton Institute of Music and Eastbourne Arndale Centre have pledged support again. Will you join them in 2011?
