Pupils from St. John’s Meads helped the Mayor, Cllr Greg Szanto, to plant out their winning ‘Wildlife’ carpet garden at Holywell in June. Hankham win the 2009 Seaside In-Bloom in March.

Eastbourne Youth Radio broadcast for the 8th year on 87.7fm and the internet in November. Programmes included ‘Answer Back’, with Nigel Waterson MP, and the popular ‘Meet the Media’ plus over 50 hours of music, drama, interviews and live features. Over 1500 students from 22 schools and colleges took part supported by 35 sponsors.

Eastbourne Engineering Club arranged more visits to local businesses plus Sussex Downs College and the University of Brighton - School of Engineering for aspiring young engineers.

Students from Ratton (Years 7-8) and St. Bede’s (Years 9-10) won Young Chef organised in conjunction with VT Enterprise in June.

Primary pupils helped Snow White to solve another tricky engineering problem using K’Nex components at the annual pantomime challenge hosted by Eastbourne Theatres in December.

7 teams took part in the annual Young Engineers Challenge for Year 6 and 7 pupils. Following an introduction to simple machines by STEM Sussex the teams were challenged to design and build a machine that would move a marble into a plastic cup! The winners were the team from St. Andrew’s Meads.

EEBP co-sponsored the ‘Services to Education’ category together with Eastbourne & District Chamber of Commerce at the 2009 Achievers Awards – congratulations to the late Andy Sibson of Cavendish School and Anna Reid, Headteacher at Willingdon Primary School.
